Healing Begins with Hope!.
A hospital is more than a place for treatment, it is where people seek comfort, healing, and the reassurance that they are not facing life’s hardest moments alone.
Recognising the challenges many patients and their families face, the North East Development Commission (NEDC), in partnership with Debbie Kauna Foundation (DKF), carried out a humanitarian outreach at Specialist Hospital Yola, providing food and non-food items to more than 150 patients receiving medical care.
The intervention reflected a shared commitment to restoring hope, preserving dignity, and supporting vulnerable people beyond the walls of healthcare.
The outreach was led by the North East Development Commission as part of its humanitarian mandate to cushion the effects of economic hardship on vulnerable members of society.
Speaking during the distribution, Barr. Khalifa Lawan, Adamawa State Coordinator of NEDC, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to improving the wellbeing of vulnerable people and noted that supporting patients with food and essential items contributes to their recovery and overall welfare.
Also addressing beneficiaries, Dr. Batulu Isa, Directorate of Humanitarian Affairs, NEDC, emphasized that caring for vulnerable people remains central to the Commission’s mission. She highlighted the importance of proper nutrition during recovery and encouraged beneficiaries to make good use of the support provided.
Working alongside hospital management, Debbie Kauna Foundation supported the coordination and transparent distribution of relief materials to patients across different wards.
The exercise ensured that assistance reached those who needed it most while reinforcing the importance of partnerships between government institutions and civil society organizations in delivering timely humanitarian support.
Hospital representatives commended the initiative, describing it as a meaningful demonstration of compassion and encouraging more organizations to extend similar support to vulnerable patients.
For many beneficiaries, the outreach represented far more than the food and non-food items they received.
It was a reminder that they had not been forgotten.
The smiles, prayers, and words of appreciation shared by patients and caregivers reflected the power of kindness during difficult moments. While medicine treats illness, compassion strengthens hope—and hope is often an essential part of healing.
